1991 black tag ZF. Does anyone know how to go about fixing the input shaft seal on the ZF transmission? After doing some research it seems like it almost never happens, to the point where I can't hardly find any information on it.
I'm sure its coming from the input shaft as the leak was quite significant, and I never saw any drop in oil level, but had to constantly fill the transmission. I already removed the transmission as well, and found the inside of the clutch housing was SOAKED in trans fluid, as well as the area where the input shaft exits the transmission case.
Are there parts I need to buy? Should I use gasket-maker or RTV? Any information is appreciated. I can't even find anything in my service manual about this.
There's a 53 X 2 o-ring, a gasket and also a 35 X 50 X 7 Metric seal. A 35 X 50 X 7 seal I'd think pretty readily available and a 53 X 2 o-ring the same. The gasket? Maybe your thoughts there are valid. ZF Doc has an exploded view of all ZF that I don't use. I have a catalog. I'd think there are folks who have done the seal and o-ring and maybe they'll respond.
