Default Our first C4

So, Grandpa sold his 1987 C4 to grandson. . It's a TPiS built motor (cam, maybe heads, tune, exhaust (headers too), 78,000 miles, Trans has a shift kit and NT05's all around, other wise, seems stock.

I have yet to get it on the quick jacks as we literally just got it a few hours ago (so if there's obvious mechanical issues, I haven't seen it yet), but after a bit of driving, I have questions mostly around alignment and brakes. Now that this car has moved south where we have proper roads, we'll need to make some adjustments to make use of the Nt05's that the car came with.
  1. On turn in, the car feels "darty", you can feel the rear almost "shift", left, the front "shift right", as you turn in, like it's pivoting on the center of the chassis. Maybe a folding feeling might be a good description. Where should I focus besides the basis ball joints and bushings? Or is this just a normal thing for this chassis?
  2. What's a good alignment target for this car? Please don't say factory, that's _NOT_ the answer. .
  3. Right height and corner balance, is this like my C6, just fiddle with the leaf right height adjusters to get the height down and balance right?
  4. Coil overs? Suggestions for this? Can anyone point me to a thread on the form where it's not overly filled with useless data?
  5. BRAKES! My gawd these suck. Appear to be factory everything. I'd love to do a small upgrade for the kid as a surprise. What fits in the factory wheels that isn't a bank buster for this car? Maybe a set of C6 factory z51calipers and rotor?

Before you do a 4 wheel alignment change every single bushing, and possibly ball joints if they are bad. The rubber bushings don't last. Change the shocks if they are original. Upgrade the front brake rotors and calipers along with changing out all the rubber brakes lines to the calipers. Lowering the ride height on a C4 isn't very hard. The front can be lowered with ashim kit, or by cutting the lower control arm spring pads down, the rear can be lowered with a longer bolts. But be careful not to go to low because convertibles have a X brace under them that extend below the body and will drag.

Welcome to the C4 addiction! If grandpa didn't provide you with receipts for the tires, you should check the date codes. Nitto's website lists the NT05 as a max performance tire with a tread ware rating of 200. What are your plans for the car? Daily driver or track monster?
