Default 1986 Corvette Fan Controls

Hello all. Long time no see. Using some free time to get some things done to our 86. First thing was to change the radiator to a Dewitt’s along with the fan. Ours has the B4P additional push fan in the front and I had replaced the temp sensor in the head years ago for it to come on around 195. So I’m digging through posts and if I’m right the main fan is turned on by either the ecm at a ridiculously high temp or by AC pressure switch when the AC is on??
my problem is the AC isn’t running and I’d rather not get into that right now. I’d switched from r12 to freeze 12 a decade ago but evidently freeze 12 is now banned as well. If there is a replacement that I won’t have to pull the compressor, flush lines and change orrifice tube/dryer let me know.
mom, back to my original question. Is it possible to cut the wire from the ecm at the main fan relay and hook it to the aux fan temp switch in the head so that both fans would come on at 195? If the ecm is just sending a closed circuit to the relay to start the fan I don’t see why it wouldn’t work.
thanks and fun to be back reading through the forum.

That should work and on the second wire you could add a dash toggle switch to it to give you the option to turn the 2nd fan on or off after temp hits 195.

I think that would work yes.

The ECM grounds the relay connection at 228F, so you just run a wire to a switch at the relay or wire it together with the Pusher fan's temp switch in the head.

to tell you the truth I’m not sure how much the aux fan even does. With the stock radiator if I let it sit running it did not take it long to get to 195 and the aux fan(which I replaced maybe 2k miles/10 years ago) would come on but it didn’t slow the march up to 225 very much. With the Dewitt’s radiator in it takes a very long time to creep up into the 225 range and turn on the main fan but I have never liked the temps these cars(and old third gen Camaro firebird tpi cars) were set to run at. All to get a mile or two more per gallon or burn off a little more exhaust. Whatever the reason it’s just too hot.

thanks
