!984 Transmission Issue
Hey everyone, I just picked up my second C4 a few weeks ago and well took it around the block after it was delivered and the car just hung up in First then once i let off on the gas it shifted. I took the car home noticed the trans fluid was low so I topped it up and had another go around the block and nothing changed, someone said it could have a shift kit but I can't see the trans hanging up for so long in first then shifting. Now this problem is there whether I'm in Drive or try to go through the gears like 1 to Drive so again looking for any suggestions to point me in the right direction to get this taken care of. I'm okay with replacing a transmission but if it's just an adjustment that might need to be made that would be even better.

There's a few things to try before getting crazy with things.
First is your TV/Dentent cable can be out of adjustment, to do a first step requires no tools. Simply remove the carpeted mat from driver's foot well ( gives more adjustment range) with car OFF!!! push the gas pedal down as far as you can you may hear a Click or two. Road test, if no improvement get out the socket set in 84 you need to remove the air filter tray to get to the workings under it. With a pair of needle nose pliers grip the detent adjuster were it slides out to do it's self adjusting get 1 more click out of it, road test, if no improvement then onto next thing.
This requires knowledge and a little commitment, the governor can be a little sticky and requires removing the governor cover removal of the governor and cleaning it with brake cleaner maintaining sterile no grit or grime through out, and the cover can be a bear to get in. So I would recommend heading to your favorite transmission shop for a service and investigation

I'm probably going to check all this and if all else fails it will be going to a shop to get checked, I was told by the guy I got it from it shifted fine, then found the previous owners contact as well and reached out to him and same thing shifted fine. I'm thinking maybe something could have happened during shipping? Anyhow thank you for the suggestions.
