DIY OBD1 data cable question
UPDATE 5-25-23 THIS CABLE SO FAR HAS NOT CONNECTED. 10k resistor in place and pin E used for data.
2ND UPDTE June 21, 2023 . I believe the failure here was the newer FTDI drivers. It is true that a commercial cable is an easier route to go.
Good afternoon,
The following schematic / pic is for a PC to OBD1 cable that uses uses a Sabrent CB-FT1K RS232 to USB converter (must be FTDI based chipset). The pic has wording "Program to invert TXD and RXD pins" that states the transmit and receive have been reveresed. Is this a function built into the Sabrent converter. The word "program" leads me to think that the windows driver may be used to configure this and "program to invert...... is an instruction by the OP to do this. Can anyone help with this ?? I will have to build one as my several attempts to get the cable online failed. Their system would not accept my Visa card, never had that before. There shipping for a small cable is over $21.00 as well. Several attempts at phone calls did not get through either. Ordering online makes the cable nearly $100. The image is from the Firebird Nation website. The CB-FT1K RS-232 converter looks like it is being phased out, finding them is getting harder.
Thanks
.

The pin M is a two way communication line.
Invert probably refers to inverting the polarity of the signals.
I would not ise a serial to usb adapter today. I would go this route: https://github.com/z51bob/8192-Baud-ALDL-for-Arduino
I bought one of these and it works fine.
at least on a ‘95
you just need the ground and receive wires connected to the ALDL. Worked with a laptop and a tablet. Might have to load a driver.
"DA connecting ........" but even after appx 4 min nothing. I import an ads file then load definitions and it changes it to an .adx file
