Default Eliminators

MidAmerica has some Performance Choice elims with the LT-1 tip for $129. Are these a good choice or is there something better for the money. My car is stock except for a chip. I want it to rumble but not scream.

They aren't that bad a deal, especailly if you want different tips than what you have stock. I, however, just went to the local muffler shop and had them cut off the mufflers, then cut the tips off the mufflers and weld them back on to a straight piece of pipe that they bent to fit properly. It worked out exactly the same as the eliminators would have, but it only cost about $75 instead of the $120+ installation the Mid-Am ones cost :D

I put muffler eliminators on mine and the sound in the car was bad. Plus I went from being able to catch second in my auto to it just falling flat. I lost low-end torque. I hated it so bad I cut a deal at my local chevy dealer and bought a new factory cat back system to put back on it. Car is now back to having all of the low-end and back to catching second with no problems. I didn't have the eliminators on it for more than a week. That was a costly move. I could have fixed it cheaper but it is a show car and I didn't want to rig the mufflers back on and have the extra weld marks on it. Several people on the forum have listed power loss with LT-1s after installing eliminators due to losing backpressure. I would agree that is what happen to mine.
Some people like the sound but I didn't. I would look into spending the money on a Borla, Corsa or a brand that gives you a more tuned system and maintains the backpressure to keep the torque. IMHO :nonod:

Well, It did take me an afternoon of driving to start thinking what is happening here. Didn’t it jumped a little better leaving the lights before? Then when I got on it I wondered what was going on I noticed it didn't have as much torque. When I put it back to stock I notice it had better torque right off the bat leaving the dealership.

By looking at your modifications: K&N Filter, Open Air Lid, Eliminators w/ 3" ,LS1 Polished MAF,V1,
Stealth Yank 2800,B&M cooler, Hypertech III,3.54's,

I'm sure you got a lot of torque with the gear alone, plus opening up the intake side I don’t think you would see a loss. Keep in mind other then eliminators mine was stock with the stock gear.

PS: By looking at your modifications I bet she will fly. Nice ride! :yesnod:

Hey Rad, do you ever have any issues when you go in for an annual inspection?

I purchased the eliminaters also from Mid-America. Sound great, no resonance. It's true you can have a muffler shop do the same thing for less, but unless you already have nice tips you'll end up with the old black LT1 boxes on the ends. Mid-America gives you the choice of several nice tips. To me that's well worth the couple extra bucks you may spend. BTW no noticiable low end torque loss.

Luv my eliminators :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod:

I had a shop just remove the mufflers then re-attach my stock tips, whole thing cost me $100. There's a couple videos on my site, the elims sound pretty sweet. As far as low end torque, I swear the car had less kick than with mufflers, and my passenger agreed. Maybe it was just in my head I guess
