I’m bringing this vette back to life. It runs pretty good. Needs an ignition tune up. It back fires if I give it throttle to quickly. After about 5-10 mph I can floor no problem. Every time I drive I get a code 24…
24- vehicle speed sensor (vss) or circuit
Could the backfiring cause that code?
No, vss mounts in speedometer hole of transmission. It sends a AC voltage signal to the cluster. Does speedometer work? The cluster buffers or converts AC signal to DC sending it to the ECM.
My cluster doesn’t work at all. I’m going to send it out to get rebuilt one day.
so that’s what’s causing the vss code and the poor running/backfiring then?
Batee.com has info about cluster..Using a digital voltmeter on ac volt setting, you can evaluate if vss is sending a signal to cluster. You could remove sensor and spin gear see it sensor generates voltage.
Misfire and backfiring ? Timing, distributor cap, rotor ,wires, spark plugs misadjusted or faulty sensor, vacuum leaks , low fuel pressure, poor grounds ...I would find some who knows more than you to help you.
