ive got to change the water pump in my 1992 lt1 it has 85,000 miles on it is their anything i need to be catious of or something else i need to do while i'm in there, do i need to get a pump from a chevy dealer or will a napa pump work good enough?
It would be prudent to replace the opti-spark, also. Here is one source for parts: http://www.partsamerica.com/ You might reference the C4 TECH TIP forum on the replacement of the opti-spark and pump, and take advantage of the experience gained by other members.
Just finished this mod on my '94 and was surprised how trashed my Opti was with just a "minor" water pump leak. The seal was shot and the bearing and internals were all rusted and tracked with dust & road grime. It was amazing to me that the car was even running! You'll save yourself a lot of headaches down the line if you replace them both now....might be an opportune time to pull that radiator shroud and do a clean up on the rad (just my $ .02).
I agree with the other folks You might want to think about venting opti also, I did mine. I went with gm water pump I don't know if napa is better or worse. Sure is cold here huh!
