Chances are it is an expensive paperclip. Jump pins A & B together and you get codes, price 1 cent !!!! Codes for free everywhere !!!!!

sounds like one I picked up several months ago. It worked for me just fine and showed two codes for me one being the Map senor( 1991 L98) I have an Actron OBD1 and OBD ll but I have a heck of a time getting it to connect properly so I usually use the cheaper one. Im having a idle/ and running issue but neither one shows any codes so the cheap one seems to be fine.

I remember my father getting hoodwinked by one of those "code readers" back around 1989-1990. He was pretty pissed when he figured out it was a dummy device with a simple jumper inside the dongle. He paid like $90 plus tax for it from Chief Auto. No returns they said.... but they gave him his money back anyway because he was irate. Before we went back, we went to the 7/11 and copied the pages out of the code book for our vehicles... haha.. I think he just used some small finish nails and aligator clip test wire and it worked the same.
