read forums on other vehicles searching this topic. Every one of them says put nothing on the bolts, just clean threads.

I never use loctite there, no problems, it's a press fit

the hub presses on but the balancer has 3 bolts to hold it to the hub. Those 3 are what I was asking about

Yes, I would, actually the bolts that came with the ATI damper came with the blue loctite already applied. With regard to the press fit, measure accurately the bore and the crank journal for the balancer, sometimes they have too tight of a press fit so the balancer bore needs to be honed. I guess this is to allow for crankshafts that are slightly undersized due to refurbishment processes. Also it's a good idea to apply silicone rtv to the bore to crank surface, to avoid a minor oil leak that can develop there.

I just pull those bolts. No lock tight on them from the factory, at least on mine.

Before you pulled your balancer, did you just put the /\ at 12'oo? I haven't pulled mine off yet. I guess I could pull the number one plug and see if the piston is up.

I think all i need to do is get the mark at 12 and when I pull the hub, orientate it at the same position.

Mark

Balancer at 12

At 12. Will pull pump and then balancer, then hub.

on the orientation of the balancer: I have read that both the balancer and hub have marks as well as the bolt triangle not being even (will only go one way). Assuming one or both to be true.

When I removed mine, I used a strap wrench. Took a min to balance the ratchet, align strap wrench (without knocking ratchet off) then pull. All three came out with no issue.
