Default Question for the auto transmission experts

Our shop manager is helping me out and rebuilding my 4L60E in my 1996 with the 3/4 gears heat damaged and locked up. The damage is bad enough that we can't get the clutches out so we plan to buy a whole input drum assembly. I bought the car with the bad trans so I don't know how bad the PO abused it. I just want to replace with the best parts I can (within reason).

I'd like to find a complete input drum assembly already assembled with the input shaft. The only one our mechanic is familiar with is the Sonnax but they seem to be nationally backordered with no ETA. I'm not just going to let the car sit indefinitely waiting on a part so I need to make a decision to just go back to stock parts or look at another assembly.

I know there is a group that will swear to go back to stock (no matter what we are talking about). Not really interested in hearing that, thank you. I know that's an option.

I would like to hear from someone with transmission building experience that has used an upgraded input drum assembly that they have had good experience with. If its a little more expensive than the Sonnax, it still may be worth it simply because its in stock.

Thanks,
Toby AKA Tobtech

The second part to this question would be, if not a complete assembly, what parts would you use to build a strong 3/4 input drum with all new parts?

I’m old school, but I don’t deal with broken input drums so It’s good to be lucky I guess.
Stock drum with steel pistons, BW 29 element sprag, Tan overruns, red forwards and red 3/4 frictions work well.
I usually remove the wave in the 3-4, use full thickness steels, thin snap ring and 7 frictions.
Keep the forwards about .040 and the 3-4’s about .050. Be sure the return springs are fresh if you run them tight.
Just my 2 cents.
