A/C Compressor or Grommet Failure?
I was driving my mother around on mothers day and we're sitting at a red light. All of a sudden, we here a loud squeal that goes on for about 30 seconds and we didn't know what the hell that sounds was. About 30 seconds later the A/C completely stops blowing cold. The blower still works its just not cold. I should also mention the A/C compressor makes a rattle when the engine is at idle. I have a 1988 model with 40k miles. Any Ideas?

The parts all seemed to check out fine. Mine is a 92 that was converted to 134A before I bought it
It turned out to be a thing called an "Variable Orifice Valve" kind of an in line filter for the AC

The rattle my be the clutch on the compressor failing. I had one that rattled for 2 years before the car was totaled by a drunk driver (i was a kid and poor if it hadn't failed I didn't replace it)
