Default Rebuilt AC compressor both wires same color!

ok so i got a rebuilt compressor for my 92. of course they painted everything BLACK...so i took lacquer thinner and took the paint off the wires...both are the exact same shade of gray....the wire harness has one positive and a ground headed to the compressor. I don't want to wire this backwards...i called the company in texas that did the rebuild and it sounded like i needed to take it apart to find out which was which...if i wire it backwards is it going to burn out the clutch? or would it just not work? any advice would be appreciated. thanks pat

Doesn't matter. The leads are nothing more than the terminations of a coil of wire. The + vs - connections are external to these wires.

I was kinda starting to guess that since anytime i've come across something where two wires came out of something and they were both the same color then it didn't matter...like speed sensors on a transmission- just pulse generators...but i really didn't want to burn it up if it mattered.....thanks very much for the advice. pat

always wise to check before applying power. when you let the magic smoke out of an electrical device, you can never put the smoke back lol. But agree, this is an electromagnet and connection does not matter.
