Default Power help?

A few weeks ago, my car (1989) stopped making power. We took the alternator out and discovered it was the wrong one entirely. We ordered a new one that says it’s for my car at 105 amps. We changed it out, and ever since, it still isn’t making power. It’ll start sometimes and drive, but it dies mid-drive. We took the battery and alternator to get checked and they’re both good. What else can it be? I’ve heard it could be a fuse or a connection, but I don’t know where to look. Please give me some DETAILED help, it’ll be much appreciated!

Have you tested the alternator with a volt meter at the output terminal to confirm the presence or absence of 14.5 volts? If voltage is there, follow that wire back towards the battery to confirm positive connection. Assuming ground is good to engine since alternator is bolted in. Have you checked your engine to frame ground wire? If the alternator did in fact check good, that means either the control wiring (small plug) has open or short or the output side has an open condition (a short in the output would fry wires and be easy to spot). Best of luck in hunting it down.
