Default Rear lights always on
‘88 convertible, the rear lights are on even though no key in ignition. Headlamps are off. Where do I start?

Looks like your brake switch died. Pull the BRAKE fuse in the fusebox and se if they go out.

I would say the brake light switch
Have someone watch the back while pulling and pushing the brake pedal
Best guess

Drop the kick panel reach up and see if the pedal is making full contact with it's contact point for the switch also see is something is keeping the pedal from fully returning to reposition. (Carpet, kick panel and so on) otherwise the switch has a problem and needs a replacement, ( locally available)
