Default Vats
If the starter is engaging on my 87, could it still be the pellet on key, that is causing the injectors not to fire?

vats cuts the starter along with the fuel. Do you have fuel pressure?

Yes 42 psi, and good spark, but wont run on ether also. it might start when I go home today. I believe something is intermittent, on triggering the injectors to fire.

Sounds like a spark related issue. If it won't run on starter fluid there is no spark. Intermittent running issues can be ICM, coil, or distributor. Check those first.
