I’ve owned my ‘94 for about a month and a half. It’s been leaking trans fluid, but I’ve been putting off looking into it until I was able to do an oil change. That day was today. I got the car up on the lift and found where the dripping was coming from:
I’m on mobile, so I don’t know how well the pic formatting is going to be.
This is back just around the spot where the exhaust pipes come together. There’s the electrical connector there, and that’s wet. What is that and would that have any reason to leak? Or anything above that would be dripping fluid on top of that.
I should note that that’s the only part that’s wet. The pan is bone dry.
I wiped the fluid off, took it for a 15-minute drive after the oils change, and the last pic there is what I was greeted with. So it’s definitely an active leak.
Thoughts? I’d like to tackle this myself before taking it to the trans shop.
You need to see if it is leaking around the sending unit (speedometer) or the unit itself some have experienced the unit itself leaking. Here is a link I believe is the O ring/seal that goes around it. https://corvetteparts.com/item/seal-...atic-1982-1996
Rock Auto is showing several, but others may know of better quality and source's

Thank you guys. Is that what I’m looking at here? The VSS?
I did a quick search on replacement, and saw some references for a special tool to remove the VSS. Is removal necessary? Or is it as simple as popping off a cover and replacing the seal?
J-38417 is the actual GM tool and for that style of VSS I believe it actually might be an advantage. Check some eBay pricing - I actually have 1 and I've no use for it. 12.75 and you pay the ship. If that interests you PM me. Do you have the FSM for your '94?

I’ll take that tool off your hands. If there’s anything I love more than tools that make my life easier, it’s a tool I’ll use once and stash on a shelf so that 35 years from now, when my grandkids ask me what the heck this thing is for, I’ll be impressed with myself that I actually remember.
It's probably either the oring for the speedometer. Or it could be the rear seal leaking. I had the same kind of leak on mine, and it was the rear seal. I had the rear seal replaced back when I had the ujoints replaced in the drive shaft. I didn't have the metal sleeve replaced as I didn't want to pay a lot extra for them to remove the rear housing to press it out and press in a new one. Anyways, the leak stopped. Though I also flushed the system with high mileage synthetic transmission fluid.
It's also a good time to drop the pan, clean the pan out, and replace the transmission filter and flush the fluid out. There are articles on how to flush the fluid out in the parking lot. On mine I last used high mileage synthetic. I think it was from Valvoline from Walmart.
FWIW: I had the same leak on my transmission. It turned out to be the actual VSS. I determined this by cleaning the area up real good and by running my transmission while filming that area with a small camera. I removed the whole tail section to replace the rear shaft seal/bushing (and the rear tail housing seal as well). While trying to remove the VSS without the tool, I broke it. No big deal for me because I had already had its replacement on hand. Putting the new VSS in without any special tools went well. No leaks in that area for me anymore.
