Default Electrical question

1989 stock

I need to replace the rocker switch in my console that allows you to pick the left or right outside mirror to adjust. I cannot find a replacement switch anywhere and it is out of reproduction. I am going to have to buy a 6 terminal rocker switch and make it work. My problem is I don’t know what kind of rocker switch to buy. I think it has to be ON/ON, but I’m lost after that. I don’t understand terms like single throw double pole and the likes. Can someone help me? Sure wish I could just find replacement part. I would pay premium!

I believe but not positively sure as I do not have mine out, so take this with caution. Sometimes called ON-OFF-ON or 3 position.
DPDT center off. Double pole double throw center off. "NOT momentary". It is a GM 14047174 and I do not see it available either. Unforntunately the demensions I can not find as all of them list the package demensions.
The 3rd schematic is the hat switch that adjust the mirror. First, make sure that yours is not just green and corroded and could be cleaned. I am sorry I can't help more but getting the switch the proper size is important as some of these switches can be huge. It is likely the switch is seperate and is inside of a holder. The holder snaps into place in the console. If the switch is seperate/inside the piece that snaps/screws into the console then mounting the rocker will be more complicated unless the replacement somehow miraculously fits.. I guess that may make a used part more attractive.

That is correct, the switch is a DPDT (double pole double throw). I would look in a junkyard for one before “making something work”
