As my lemons project continues, next step is wire reduction. I want to remove any unnecessary wires but I am afraid to start hacking. Everything going to the doors, seats, radio, can go. I'll need wipers, lights, heater fan, gauges and idiot lights. Tracking them to their source is a bit tricky. I have started unwrapping the black tape. Any thoughts? Airbag module is gone and deleted. There is a metal box behind the dash with 2 wire batches going to it. Anyone know what it does? Also found a small black plastic one.
What year is the car? The label on the aluminum box would ID it. The CCM is the first thought, but if it's a '91 or '92 car the box could be a DERM for SIR. If it's a '90 that was previously crashed with SIR deployment the service DERM would also look like that. Are the wire bundle in 'yellow' sheath? The small plastic box could be ID'd also with a part number from it. You mentioned air bag module removed so ........................................ .
Planning on re-installing dash and gauges. So LCD needs to work. chimes & cruise can go.
highly suggest buying a FSM and learning how to read the electrical section. And but the proper crimping tools. There are two wire pass through in the firewall with wires that you need. Eliminate the one at the centerline below the windshield.
I dislike keeping the factory dash as it does create additional issues with roll bar placement.
Thanks. going w/ dash and gauges just to keep the rad feeling of racing a corvette convertible, personal dream of mine. It definitely is creating challenges and made the roll cage more work.
