Anyone using a optima battery(red /blue or yellow top).....what size? Does this fit without any mods...with measurements it does not seem to fit......I am looking for something with 750+ CCA with a 120+ reserve power.....all suggestions welcome.
What about the Exide orbital dry cell......
Need more power....using 650CCA AC delco battery now...new...but need something stronger

Re: Battery question for C4 (Tomulrich)
I'm curious also, my current battery is pretty old and worn out.
I've heard the optima doesn't fit well, because it has top posts, and is larger. What's the best place (cheapest) to buy one? Costco or online, or...??
These sears Diehards aren't all they're cracked up to be in my experience.
odessy makes a nice battery thats whats in mine 925 cranking amps and it only weighs about 20 lbs plus it is alot smaller than stock i used there aluminum mount to get it to work
Used the red one in our suburban. Its a big one but cured all starting trouble hot and cold. It has side posts and top posts that make jumping off my work truck a snap. Please post if it fits if you get one because Ill get one for the toy.
:yesnod: :yesnod: :steering:
Installed the optima red top and loe the battery. The car starts right up and I heard you can get 7 years out of the battery.
i have 6 so far on the one in my truck......the one in the car fits wonderfully!
part number is 75135-925; model number is 8022-091; cranking amps is 870; cold cranking amps is 650 and looks like the reserve capacity is 90 minutes! but this battery has been in my 85 for almost the whole 2 years i have owned it
the thing i truly love about these batteries is the fact that they can be run completely dead (did it 7 times on my truck) and by the time my hour drive from work is complete, the battery is like new again....she starts up under her own power!
i'll never buy anything else again!!!!
I bought one of the new AC Delco gel ones - Platinum Plus or something like that. Expensive (#125), but same technology as the Optima, but better because there is no voids or gaps between the 6 "beer cans". Being GM, it fits perfectly. It's a 7-year jobby.
I have installed Optimas in 2 personal Corvettes... a 88 and my current 90 ZR-1... I also tried the Orbital in my 88... more trouble to install than it was worth... The Optima was easy in the 90... had to grind off some of the lip on the motor side of the tray... also had to slot the battery hold down block to offset it to the motor side a tad... everything turned out perfect considering the oversize red top that it is... 750cca... been a little over a year and no problem yet... the other downside is that it weighs 40 lbs... would look great behind the passenger seat in the cubby hole... that would be the perfect place for a gasless battery... imho

Put a red top in day before yesterday, did it in the parking lot of the auto parts store in about 10 min. I have heard nothing but good things about them.
I just had two Exides in a row go bad on be, both had a bad cell so I broke down and spent the extra money on a red top Optima from COSTCO  AWESOME battery, only had to trim a little piece off the tray and she went in perfectly. Talking with a few people... Exide is on the downslide.
Has anyone used one of these in the compartment behind the passenger seat? Do any of the sanctioning bodies (SCCA, NHRA, NCCC) have a problem with this? Does it still need a sealed container? thanks.....
