I bought my 93 knowing it had issues. The air conditioner compressor was hot wired to the battery. So the problem is the ac switch isn’t working. Please tell me what to check?
You can start by checking the Climate Control codes. If you have a code 09, the compressor will not engage until the code is reset. Other codes may do the same. All of the codes are listed in the FSM, if you have one. If you don't have one, you need one.
The 09 code means the system is low on Freon. The compressor will not turn on if the Freon is low, and that is number one. And you cannot refill it unless the compressor is running, so you have to temporarily bypass the low pressure switch to get it to turn on. Then, after it is filled, you have to clear the 0-9 code and that is done by disconnecting the battery for 30 sec. or so. If there's no other problems, then it will work.
Whoever hot wired the compressor to the battery had absolutely no clue what he was doing.
Does your system put out cold air?

the air conditioner does put out cold air. If the hot wire is disconnected I can’t get the air conditioner to turn on.
What's the hot wire attached to, the AC compressor clutch? And how do you turn it on, have a separate switch for that?
actually when I bought the car the hot wire went directly to the battery. So it was draining the battery and apparently the person didn’t know how to fix it. So it’s in the shop and the mechanic is trying to figure out why when connected to the switch it won’t work? Any ideas?
