Oil pressure with engine off?

Hi all! Back in the C4 game after a few years off. Have a 1989 L98 that shows somewhere between 3 and 9 psi on the oil pressure readout on the dash with the motor completely shut off and cold. I'm suspecting the sender, but it seems I have read that they tend to spike on the other end of the pressure spectrum when bad. Any other thoughts? BTW, the number isn't steady. It jumps around during this initial period. Once I fire the motor up, it reads high 30 to low 40 psi numbers, so mostly normal there. TIA

Well, it appears you already seem to know that there can't be 9 PSI in the engine hours after shutdown. I suspect the sender. Dan

Sender unit probably dying or just off reading when power is to it. I've seen mine do it.
