I'm going to change the gear lube in my '85 (as soon as I'm able to use my right hand again-I broke it.) I've seen all kinds of different weights, synthetic and conventional lubes. What do you guys recommend? Also, how much limited slip additive is needed for the job? Thanks for the help, guys! :chevy
There are a few people who believe the GM stuff is good... that is only because they have never used VP Racing Products Semisynthetic gear lube.
You use it with no additives. The first thing you notice is the car drives smoother. Especially backing our of parking spots. You even notice it feels easier to accelerate...it's almost amazing the differeice.
I use the 75-90 Redline synthetic as well and use one bottle of the additive (Redline brand). It takes about a quart and a half, plus the additive to fill the pumpkin properly.

See...thats what I mean...no one who has tried the VP stuff ever has to use any additive. The stuff works, and works better than ANY other rear gear lube on the planet. Every one who used it will not only say they used it...but they will swear by it.
I found that out myself after draining fluid about 12 times and trying different brands with additives...none would stop the clicking on my tightly built 12 bolt except the VP.
