And this on the heels of putting on my SuperRam, intake base included.
Here is what I have...............
-It leaks on the drivers side header right where the tubes meet the collector
-It leaks more under hard acceleration/WOT (from increased oil pressure possibly)
-I pulled the distributor and it doesn't seem seem to be leaking at the rear "lands" of the block or from those two oil gadgets back there.
-Most of the oil looks like it is above the oil filter.
Any thoughts
:grouphug: <-----Not a group hug, but you guys thinking synergistically
After thinking about things a bit I figured either my oil pressure guage, the switch or the fitting was the culprit. So I bought new ones and cleaned the hell out of everything, used liquid Tephlon and just finished wrapping everything up. I'll give it a run tomorrow.
On the highway at a steady pace there was no smoke coming out from the back of the car. About 3-4 seconds after I went to WOT I could see a trail of burning oil that looked like a vapor trail in my rear view mirror.
So more oil was coming out at WOT/more oil pressure.
(the oil is dripping on the exhaust causing the smoke definetly notcoming out of the exhaust.
Does anybody know where my sending unit is? Is it right above the oil filter which has the two rubber lines connected to it.
When you installed the intake base, did you re-do the oil pressure sensor ? It is located on the back of the block, right where the intake goes.
There is a connection on the block, kinda like a 90 deg elbow that goes into the oil pressure sensor. The other end of the sensor has the electrical connection.
The other thing it could be is the oil filter cooler.
65Z01 was blowing oil last year at WOT. He might have some insight also.
I didn't touch that 90 degree elbow that comes out of the block that the sending unit(oil pressure sensor & switch) connects to. I did however remove and replace the the sensor and switch last night.
Where is my oil cooler. Is it shown in one of my photos right above the oil filter which has the two line coming out of it. If that is it, you can see that the oil is above it
The oil cooler is the one with the lines connected to it. Yes the oil is above it, but with wind turbulance, the air could be blowing it anywhere, even forward. That is why these oil leaks can be such a PITA.
If you continue to have problems locating it, you may need to clean the engine with degreaser REALLY good, buy a kit that uses UV dyes for the oil. Run the car a little to get it to start leaking, then look with the UV light and see were it appears to be originating. Good luck!
Yeah Jess, I've read about those UV kits and was toying around with that idea of trying that if it still leaks.
I could not find any info in my Helms or Haynes manual regarding removing the oil cooler. Do I remove the nut that you see with the oil filter out and go from there?

Yes, remove the big nut that you see when the oil filter is out. its an odd size and I think its standard size not metric. You don't have to take the oil cooler hoses off to change the oil cooler gasket. The gasket is exactly the same as the oil filter gasket so take it out of a new oil filter to replace.
I am not sure that the oil cooler gasket is your problem. My brother forgot to put the gasket in when he installed the engine  and I have oil leak simmilar to your.
If you can find a place that sell the gasket let me know:). I can't find any place that sell a gasket alone and luckily the oil filter gasket fit exactly when I took the cooler out to check for my oil leak problem. Hate to spend the price of oil filter for a gasket.
:yesnod: It was indeed the oil coller gasket :yesnod:
That thing was flat as a pancake. I also changed out the sending unit parts as well. Now I can hammer my SuperRam/custom chip induced car and give you guys some feedback :steering:
