I have a 1985 that has had a non-working overdrive since when I bought it last year. After replacing the relay to no avail, I decided to hard wire the overdrive solenoid to 12v of ignition power in order to send power directly to the overdrive. It still doesn't engage the overdrive. My guess is that the solenoid has gone bad, if this is the case does anyone know where I can buy one?
Further, if anyone has any ideas on what else could be causing it to not engage please let me know what it could be.
Unless you have already answered this elsewhere, have you checked the fluid level and if so what did it smell like if it's nasty burnt black and stinks like gear oil odds are your OD needs a possible rebuild
Because ATF doesn't smell like that, also look at the goo in the pan and the magnet in pan if it has chunks, "Nuff Said"
Is this a automatic or manual because this is for manual
You may want to drop the pan and valve body on the Nash OD unit. Mine was filthy from a previous failure of the clutches. Once i cleaned it all out and put fresh fluid in it, it started working great. You should also check for power at the case connector. It needs 12v to actuate the solenoid. Is the OD light coming on your dash?

The solenoid it getting 12v from ignition power via a swich, this bypasses the ecu and OD relay completely so its getting the power 100%. This results in the OD light not working though . I'll try to drop the pan and put in new ATF.
