Default Wheel/Tire Fitment

Anyone know if the fitment below would work on a 1984 corvette?

They're sawblades from a newer generation corvette and I think they look a lot better then the stock ones or my centerlines.
- 17x8.5 w/ 255/45/17’s
- 17x9.5 w/ 285/40/17’s

I ran those sizes on my "85. I used 1.25" adapaters at all four wheels and they fit fine. On the fronts, I don't think the 9.5" wheels would work with that thick an adapter. I have heard they will fit without spacers, but I suspect they will look too far inboard.

The offset distance between early and late C4's is about 3/4". If you use that thickness spacer, be sure to check for the studs extending past the adapater and possible contacting the wheels. Some wheels have clearance in that area, but not all wheels.

Good luck.

You require an adapter plate of about 3/4" to make them fit flush with the bodywork.

To put the 8.5 @56 offset on the front would require a 30mm spacer/adapter to duplicate OE position in the wheel house. See post #2.

Use deeper offset wheels if you can. Here's a solution that I wish someone told me when I first got the 1986 car years ago, is that for the 1984-1987, you can use the ZR1 rear wheels all the way around 17X11 if you can find two sets of matching rears (OEM rear ZR1 wheels not replicas or ZR1 style a-molds, not GS or Camaro)... with a wider type 275 tire that allows for 11" wheel fitment and 10.9"+ section width (I've used Falken RT660's for example, although that's a stiff ride and short tread life for most on the street). Many 315 tires can have complications though (may rub in front fender and sway bar at full lock, and rear dogbones and rear sway bar may rub, etc). The deep fitment (ET36 versus ET52-56) looks great on the 84-87.

I even have a 12" widened ZR1 wheel that I can fit in the back with zero fender rub and car lowered 1" or therabouts... BUT for that monster I removed the rear swaybar, shaved the bump stop and bracket, and a few other changes, with 315 tires... (315/35ZR17's are tough to find a good 200TW competitive tire though, but the 315's on 12"s are sweet)
