Does single mass flywheel use same pressure plate?
About 300 miles ago I worked with Bill ZF Doc to replace my clutch with a used dual mass. My newly acquired 95 had terrible shudder/chatter.
My dual mass was toast and Bill had a used dmf that he sold me cheap. Unfortunately the shudder was only slightly improved initially, and now it's back to terrible.
Bill had the car for weeks and almost $3k later, driving isnt enjoyable.
I understand the compromise with a smf conversion but I am going to go that route.
My question is, will my 300 mile PP work with a new sprung clutch and single mass flywheel? Or do i need to replace the pp as well?
Carolina clutch has a 3 piece kit for $800, but if my pp will work, I'd like to save some $.
TY!
Yes, it's the standard Chevy 10.5" pattern... the "gotcha" is the sprung hub that many chose for the clutch plate, the flywheel needs an adequate recess.
BTW I have a nice 153 Fidanza Billet Aluminum Flywheel removed last week, installed early 2022 with between 600-1000 miles on it, and it has the proper recess for the sprung hub most people want with the SMF. $200? (Fidanza 198501, zero balanced and then weight (5.2oz @ 4.50") added for 23.4 oz/in via kit 337775)
