Great replies here and very informative. Here's the RPO codes confirming what you all figured out anyway. The car is a manual Z51 car. It's also blue-on-blue. The fact that I'll just never find another one is one of the reasons I'm considering keeping it. As for the roof, it was already cracked before the accident, right down the middle going almost halfway across the glass, so that doesn't concern me too much. As for overall condition, it's a driver not a show car. There is some wide scale scuffing over the roll hoop and the left rear quarter, IDK if somebody tried and failed to buff it or something. The seats are cracked where you'd expect them to be cracked. The carpets had a stain or two. The wheels have peeling clear, but 3 of them are straight and solid.

If anybody is interested, the car is sitting in my garage in Minneapolis. I'd much prefer to get this car into the hands of an enthusiast rather than go to a salvage yard and wait for an auction in the rain.

I'd love to read another VikingTrad3r story of bringing another one home to provide it a new life.

All he would need is plenty of duct tape and super glue.

After seeing the rest of the car, why would only paint the bumper and hood? The rest of it needs paint as well.

On the Z51, unfortunately it is anFX3 Z51 car. So it got the softer springs and smaller sway bars.

I drove it that way for 4 years. And I wouldn't get much of a discount if any for painting the whole car at the same time. If I was putting it back on the road it would be a repair, not a full restoration.

If you were going to fix it and paint it, I'd just paint the top half.

Thank You all for the extreme vote of confidence haha!!

Dogs knew id be looking at a blue on blue. He knows i want one! (he has a mint 85 blue/blue).

I did see the car but as Chump points out, this car is actually a base spring/bar car. FE1 springs and bars.

For 89 and 90, if fx3 was ordered along with z51, GM downgraded the springs and bars to fe1 rates….unless it was a corvette 89 challenge car. They were the test program for combining the fx3 system with the fe7 springs. In 91, the z07 option replaced the z51 option in terms od rpo nomenclature for a “handling package” and the fe7 springs/bars were included with fx3.

I do not know about later years—if the z07 retained fx3 and the fe7 springs.

Because fx3 was so popular, in 89 and 90, i have only seen a handful of z51 cars that were not also fx3 cars.

For those that checked the z51 but did not check fx3, they got a an 88 challenge spec car equivalent, with a zf6. I have one and they are crazy crazy fast in the corners.
