small update. found some accessories that use a camaro belt line. they shared dimensions and i measured everything out yesterday, should fit with no problems, minus ac of course. waiting on verification, can i close the hood with c7 accessories? (alt is very high pass side).
hopefully have an answer mid week so i can order the aftermarket accessories and keep this moving. then i get to learn whether or not i can even get a hood to close on it. granted the engine is leaned back a bit, exacerbating the cylinder head poke, it sits up high regardless. worst case is i order a vfn hood and have it modified to fit.
Cool build, I installed a tweaked LQ9 in my 85 vette awhile back. Your valve covers appear to sit higher up (above the inner fender skirts), curious on how much hood clearance you have?
i did an lsx swap in an 84 a little over 10 years ago. the difference in chassis 84/89 and engines lsx/ltx are night and day. i did not expect them both to be so different.
nothing i learned on the first swap applies to this one, except crank pulley clearance is minimal. nonetheless, i will keep at it. i sold a very nice car to build this one, i will have a very nice car when im done.
picked up a c7 alternator this weekend. also think i sourced a power steering solution from a local yocal. that will be the last piece of the accessory drive puzzle before i put the hood back on it and see if anything hits. alt looks close.
right now the accessory drive is factory c7 parts in factory c7 places.
-modified c7 water manifold
-slightly modified c7 alternator
-modified c7 ac bracket with factory tensioner (no ac)
-c7 damper
-custom add on power steering
i am trying hard to utilize factory gm stuff because i think its cool and is also easily replaceable.
still chipping away on this thing. been busy with holiday & teenager stuff. with any luck the engine, clutch and trans will be in it very soon. need to swap oil pans first.
exploring options for pwm radiator fans. hitting the junkyard this weekend for some chevrolet volt fans and another set of wheels.
after some discussion with a few trusted sources, i'm going to do a conventional return style low side fuel system. regulated & returned walbro 525. i should be able to use a large portion of the factory fuel lines as well as the factory tank, hanger (hopefully) and sending unit. going to use a holley hydramat in a new fuel tank.
made a little progress recently. hopefully installed the engine for the last time. hung the sfi blowproof bell and clutch. should have the trans on it soon.
fun fact: speed engineering 2" primary 6g camaro headers fit the car but hang too low for use. i'll install the factory camaro manifolds and alternator as well and grab some pics. the energy suspension motor mount inserts moved the engine just enough to *possibly cause an issue with the water pump. will confirm once the trans and c beam are in.
another small update. i'm learning the tr6060 & t56 clutch differences the hard way. started taking measurements for slave shimming and discovered a huge problem. can't use this lsa clutch in my t56 without a custom slave. i wasn't interested in this solution so i ordered a clutch. monster lt1 s organic twin with *correct flywheel & stack height. basically a conversion clutch that i should've ordered to being with.
unfortunately i have more than 1 project car so ive been doing what i can, when i can. i read threads back in the day and wondered how people got themselves into situations like this. now here i am doing the same thing. sheesh.
