Wiper switch Broken

It's way stronger now then when it left the factory OEM. The switch operation is nice and tight now, too. There's no play in it.
It's just an aside kind of thing he does between his regular steering column repairs. Took a few weeks to get it back, but I got it back safe and sound. Turnaround time, I think, depends on when the guy who does the actual refurb is working in the shop.
He's not gonna lose your part, he runs a legit repair shop. I think I even got two separate invoices when I got the refurbished part back. One for the repair/description and one for the shipping/delivery.
I would just send it out and be done with it.
The ship to address, I sent mine out to...
The other thing to consider, since you mentioned about rigging it up some other way, is that it's a multi-function switch. It also operates your hi/lo beams. So it basically has to maintain the same structure in order to do everything it's designed to do.
The way they designed it seems to be more of an incomplete design rather than a poor design, as they changed it around after '93.
Basically the hi/lo beam function is a glorified lego piece behind the multi-function switch doing a balancing act on a metal rod and a true pain in the *** to get on there right. In fact, that part is what consumed the most time for me in putting it all back together. I cussed up a blue streak. That thing people say about smearing grease on the thing to keep it in place while you put it back together only makes a mess all over everything you touch and makes it harder to finagle. I wouldn't do that. Eventually, I figured out an easier, less messy way. Which still wasn't exactly ''easy'' but I did a lot less cussing, so it made me feel better about the situation. lol...
Even the way they drew that hi/lo beam lego looking piece in the FSM (in my '90 FSM anyway, which is the first year they introduced that setup) is just a picture of the piece by itself up in the corner of the diagram with no applicable image with regard to how it installs/functions. It's kind of funny, really, because it's pretty clear by looking at it that they just said, okay, let's just stick a drawing of the floating part up here in the corner, we'll figure it out later.

Once you get the wheel off and all of the other stuff under it out, you have to pull the top of the column SLIGHTLY forward in order to get the multi-function/wiper switch itself out.
If you do that SLOWLY and DELICATELY and pull it forward ONLY as far as you really have to go in order to get the switch out of there, the hi/lo beam parts MIGHT very well stay in place and save yourself a headache when you go to put it back together.
But if that hi/low beam stuff falls out, it's game over. You'll be cussing, trust me...
So, going into it, that's probably the best tip I can offer from the been there/done that department.
This is probably about the only video I've seen on it. He did a good job on documenting the steps for a '90-'93 and you'll see exactly where yours is broken once he gets it out...
