Default Break in with synth. Please read

Taken from an old post regarding break-in procedure:

“If you go synthetic, the motor will not break in, or so I've heard. I believe it was VetteNuts who said he switched his Grand Prix to synthetic at like 2,000 miles and it burned oil till over 70,000 miles….”

“…My engine builder said you will never seat the rings if you break it in with synthetic. It goes along with what I have always heard too so I'll stick to it…”

“….Comp Cams told me my warrenty is void if I use synthetic for break in……”

“…Using a full synthetic oil for break-in will not seat the rings. ie.....you'll burn oil for a LONG time…..”

Recently I made a complete rebuild using new Eagle crank, new Eagle rods, new KB pistons (KB are tight fit pistons), new bearing, oil pump, water pump …all new.....
The mechanic, after the first period of break in (400 miles) changed immediately to a 5W30 synth.
Reading this old post maybe I understand the cause of the abnormal oil consumption of my rebuilt engine. (switched too soon to synthetic).
Now the total mileage is: 1500 , I made 400 miles with regular and 900 miles with synth.
The question: Could I change again to regular oil? If yes, viscosity??
Thanks. – Beppe -

Mobil has this to say about it (..the first FAQ).. http://www.mobil1.com/index.jsp

If the ring material is matched to the hone finish and cylinder material, it doesn't matter if you use synthetic or regular oil.

The hone finish and the type of materials used for the rings and bore determine the break-in characteristics.

I would switch back to dino oil for a couple thousand miles. Id run a slightly higher viscosity than you normally run with Mobil.

I Called Mobil 1 last time we had this discusion and thier own tech told me not to use synth. for break in probably because verry few shops have any Idea of how to hone a cylender to properly seat with synthetic oil I.E. The machinist who honed the motor told him not to use synth. for break in and thats not including the fact that his cam man. also told him not to use syn. oil I just dont understand the logic of using synth oil for break in the cam manuf. and machinist are telling you to use regular motor oil and people insist on trying to use synth and if you call mobile one they also tell you not to use thier oil for break in. As far as the question goes it depends on what type of rings you used if you used cast rings they should have seated with in 400 miles if you used molly they probably would not have seated and I have no Idea of what the affects of using syth. I wouldnt think it would glased the cyl. walls but it is possible but for sure you have nothing to loose by going back to reg. motor oil and running it for a couple of thousand miles to see if your rings seat. What type of rings did you use?
