It's no different than any another rear diff, other than the C beam needs removed and the back of the transmission will need to be supported. I expect there.is a YouTube video.
Reach out to this fellow who has recently done it in his car. There's snapshots in his thread regarding it and very dependent on your D44 you might want to check yours for it's build. If yours was maybe a very early rear axle ratio change you could have the same circumstance he ran into.
Thanks for the replies. The oil is running back along the bottom of the diff. No worries about 4.10 gears. I will however take a very close look at the yoke when I get it out. This is a one year old rebuilt diff.

I was convinced that my Dana 44 pinion seal was leaking too. But once I really examined it, it turned out to be the differential cover (bat wing) leaking. The pinion seal was bone dry. The oil was running and dripping from the bottom of the of the differential as yours is. It cost me north of $1400.00 to get that leaky gasket replaced. Lots of parts need to be removed to get that cover off. I hope yours is as simple as a pinion seal replacement.

Mine is doing that right now... trying to find a reputable shop in the Sarasota Florida area to do it. I currently have a 3.73 setup but will be going with 4.10's as long as the whole thing needs to be removed.
I probably could have gotten it done for about $600.00. But I opted to replace the differential "batwing" bushings, the half shaft universal joints, and the drive shaft universal joint changed too while he had everything apart. Those were all due to be replaced, so I went for it. I'm glad I did.
