My climate controls are blinking for the first minute the car is on. I looked in the owner's manual and it says to have the AC system serviced. Any way for me to find out what is causing this without a diagnosis computer? The heat works fine. Could it be the AC needs charging? Its never been touched as a system for as long as I've owned it (6 years).
Thanks :skep:
Re: Blinking light on my AC controls (92TripleBlack)
Push and hold the fan "up" arrow and fan "down" arrow at the same time for 5 seconds.
The LCD will show "00". Push "AUTO FAN" and the LCD will show any fault DTCs stored:
09=low freon, etc. If there are other codes, post them, and I will help you.
Thanks Oldman. I'll try that tomorrow. If it is low freon, I'm hoping that this is because its been so long and not a leak. Does that sound reasonable?
Thanks again

...... If it is low freon, I'm hoping that this is because its been so long and not a leak.
If you have a low freon code, you have a leak. Seals dry out and deteriorate over time.
This is a problem that can be solved with money. The system will be evacuated, tested for leaks, seals replaced, if necessary, and refilled with R12 (expensive). (maybe $300)
An alternative is converting to R134. There are TECH TIPS on this conversion. Supposedly, R12 is a superior refrigerant, but many owners are satisfied with R134.
Re: Blinking light on my AC controls (92TripleBlack)
I have had the same problem with my 1990. I checked the DTC and there it was, error code 09. Fortunatly the vette is going into the shop tomorrow and I will have them check it out. Thanx for the info!!
Re: Blinking light on my AC controls (92TripleBlack)
I had an 09 code set a couple of years ago. When I took the car in for service, the tech told me to make sure I ran the A/C system at least once a month. That way the refridgerant and oil will circulate in the sysem keeping the seals in good shape. The compressor will run in cooling mode when the outside ambient air is (I think!) above 50 degrees. You can probably run the deftoster mode, too. I now use the "Auto" button all the time instead of using the other buttons.
I'm thinking about R134a this spring as I know that the R12 supply is getting expensive. My 99 Silverado has R134a in it and it takes a lot longer to get cool inside than earlier trucks I've owned. I wouldn't think that would be a problem in Vettes as the interior cabin is so much smaller.

Keep in mind there are a couple of dozen different codes/channels to get to. Need to know what it says.
