I would like to get a scan tool for my 94. OBD2 but I understand it is actually OBD1. I've searched and seen numerous options, but as of today, can someone provide a recommended product and approach? appreciate it.

In both cases kits usually have both the GM ALDL / ODB1 interface for 93 and earlier, also ODB2 connector you'd used for the 94 even though its still communicating ODB1
Those are both two that I've used, the snapon is easier to find / more common in my experience the last few years.
Scan9495 works well, although I’ve not used any of the other options for comparison.
Codes, history, real time diagnostic, it’s all there.
The site covers what cable is needed, setup, etc.
Data interpretation is up to the user, but I’ll bet there are some folks that could provide some interesting spreadsheet templates to graph and relate important data into actionable analysis. I haven’t gone down that road myself just yet, but maybe this is the inspiration I need to take that up.
