The 17x11 36mm are the ZR-1 offset for the rear.
I have a set of them on the car now. They will stick out about .75". I used fender flairs to hide them.
I have pictures of the GS offset which is 50mm offset , the fronts are 36mm and the rear ZR-1 offset is 36mm hence the 3 inch wider body hiding the offset. The GS rim uses the flares. I used the GS rims and narrowed the spindle, brake bracket, using GMs guide lines. I can send photos.
I just looked at my AFS 11" rims today when I was getting the new tires put on. They are 50mm according to the label inside the rim. Now the way I learned about wheels was that the greater the offset, the further it sticks out, where the backspacing is greater it tucks in more.
Now if the ZR1 is 36 mm and the GS is 50 mm, you would think the GS would stick out further.
While at the track one day, I took a close look at Rich S' Grand Sport, now obviously he has the factory GS wheels, they stick out way further than the AFS wheels, but the flares cover them, the flares on my car would not look right because they would overhang too much.
This gets confusing after a while, but all I know is that the AFS wheels fit great on my car.
Steve: Thanks for the pictures did you say those are the 36mm offset or the Grand Sport offset, the reason I'm asking is because it looks like the GS offset, like I have right now. I have come across some wheels but they are 36mm in the rear 17X11 so I need to see pictures with them.
I have the 50 mm Grand Sport offset, which brings the wheel in further by 14mm. I further narrowed the diff, using 1987 spindles, which are 13mm shorter, then I cut the brake caliper bracket down 13mm, and using GMs Big Doggie corvette as an example, and guide, I cut the opening to where the wheel bearing rests on the rear knuckle at a not very clean, but workable, angle to allow the bearing to come in further by 13mm.
ps I have the AFS wheels also, but I wanted mine to fit flush with nothing hanging out, which they did at first.
Mojo, I thought that the 36mm offset wheels the inside "dish" actaully sunk in further than the GS wheels? If this is the case I would think that they would stick out more. I would think thats why they put the 36mm offset on the ZR1's because they have a much wider rear body to fill up. I just don't know if the GS Flares on my car will cover them or not, the stock GS wheels thier is a little over hang on the factory offset. If the 36mm sinks the wheel in more it won't work but if it pushes it out around 14mm then it would be fine.
Mongoose, that's what I want to clarify. I know that the offset is the measurement from the edge of the rim to the center of the wheel. Later when I go to mount mine, I'll do some measuring. It was much easier when the companies used the standard rather than metirc measurements.
When they are talking offset, they are referring to how far the mounting surface of the wheel is offset from the wheels centerline. Some companies talk about backspacing, which is very easy to figure, but offset is a little tougher. The lower the offset, the further out the wheel will set. That is why 38mm offset wheels stick out further on a late model c4 and 56mm wheels will rub on the inside of an early model. The spindles on later models stick out further, therefore the bigger offset to pull the wheels back in.
The more you talk about it the more confusing it can be.
It's the very reason I've been trying to sell all of my 38mm ZR-1 11" wheels. They won't fit on the front of the 90 model that we're building into a race car, yet they worked great on the 84.
I wonder how they would look on the front of your brown truck?
Ok, well everything it sounding like the wheels might come about even with my fender flares. Just need some pictures before I make the final desicsion Coupe89: Do your rear wheels sink in at all in your sig pic they just look like 9.5s in the rear.
