Hey guys, I ordered some Headman Elite 1 5/8 headers for my 89, they have a pretty thick flange on them (3/8). I was thinking I’d install some stage 8 locking header bolts when I do the install. I’ve had great luck with them on header installs I’ve done in the past on my Fords. I see they make a few different sets for the SBC applications though, would I be right ordering the 8911A set (underhead length is 1 inch)? I figured since the flanges on these headers are pretty thick the standard 8911 set (underhead length of 3/4 inch) might not reach into the head far enough.
Also, one other question-do any of you have any recommendation on header gaskets? I’m sure the headman headers come with some but I’d like to hopefully only do this job once. I haven’t decided on an exhaust yet but Im leaning towards the pypes brand dual system that comes with an X pipe and their race flow muffles. Thanks guys.
I use those header bolts as well, also for the collectors. I used copper collector gaskets, and just good Heddman header gaskets. Been years, no issues. Those bolts make a difference. When i built my engine, i torqued the bolts, ran the engine to temp a few times, then re-torqued and installed the locks. Hasnt been an issue.
I also jse Hedman Elite 1-5/8" Elite Long tube headers.
Can you recommend a part number for this product? These are to ensure the collector doesn't loosen up right?

They have all the kits. Used many of them over the years. Love them. Was just inspecting all the bolts and they all stayed put with no leaks. Only way to go...
