Power Steering Hose Routing LT1: Help Needed!
I cannot see how the host that goes from the rack to the drivers side of the new pump is routed. I know the pump hose enters the pump with the 180deg bend downwards.
If some kind soul could ng soul post a youtube video or pictures showing where the hose goes after it leaves the pump, I would be very grateful!
New Hose
.There were 2 issues that are worth sharing in case others have the same issues. 1. The pump I bought from Amazon (A-Premium Power Steering Pump) would not fit. I had preinstalled the hose that links the pump to the reservoir feed tube, and thought that must be the issue. Remove the hose, and it still would not go in ... finally, offered up the old unit, and it fitted. Compared the 2 units only to find the new pump feed tube was inclined 30 deg towards the block! No wonder it wouldn't fit. Clamped the pump body in a vise and put a 24" length 1" ID pipe over the tube to "persuade" it to align as per the factory item.
The second item was the hose that I ordered from Zip Corvette to link the pump to the reservoir feed. Firstly, I had to order 36", and secondly, it was almost impossible to get it slip on the pump or tube (boiled it in cooking fat to see if that would work! It did on the pump, but I couldn't keep it hot enough to work on the feed tube). Looked at the old and new hose and see that the one sent was hydraulic hosing, the kind that you swage the high pressure end on, with lots of reinforcing on the diameter. Got some 1" OD automotive general purpose hose and it worked fine.
My original question was easily solved once the pump was in place: once the 180deg hose was located in the newly installed pump, it was very obvious where the flexible return had to be routed (under the forward frame cross tube).
Thanks again!
