Default Can C4 ABS system run standalone?

I am not 100% sure how to approach this but I currently own a Everett-Morrison cobra replica that utilizes C4 suspension, and I'm close to pulling the trigger on a Mongoose Motorsports Grand Sport replica which also utilizes C4 suspension. I have done some research on the ABS-ASR systems on the C4 and was wondering if anyone knows if anything would be needed other than the sensors in the hubs, EBCM, lateral accelerometer, and ABS module? Essentially can the ABS system run stand alone with out all the inputs supplied from the ECM and other components needed for the ASR system? I found a very informative manual online pertaining too 89-93 cars and it appears to the diagrams provided it looks like it could potentially work. Not sure if anyone has any experience with this or not? thanks in advance have a great week
Danny

As problematic as the C4 ABS/ASR and service parts aren't available either I wouldn't even think on it. A quick read of the manual you posted should be enough to convince you.

The manual is making me think it would work, I been a BMW tech for 15 years the diagrams and system operation in the manual are very primitive in operation which is why I think it will work. And as far as parts go, they don't have to be brand new low mileage used will work fine as long as they are all compatible

Your front suspension is early '84 - '87 or '88+ for the front control arms? Low mileage used are very hard finds! VERY!

1992 front end and 1991 rear Dana 44. The control arms are plentiful on Ebay and a quick google search there are plenty of bushing rebuild kits as well as ball joint replacements. Parts are the least of my concerns

Being '91+ is certainly a great help with the fronts because the sensors are actually part of the hubs so you you'd have no issues there. If it were earlier then sensors and spindles become issues. There is nothing even used that's inexpensive. Nothing!

The diagram on 2-5 and the following pages is all of the components and maybe if you found someone parting a later '91+ so you could get all components from one car might be good. The hydraulics seem to be the issues. Since most of your components are compatible then maybe it isn't outrageous $$ wise but do you actually need? C4 ABS is generally considered problematic. You could perhaps by just using the electrical connectors to components fabricate your own harness.

The good news is, the system already runs stand alone. It requires nothing from the ECM.

You can run the 86-89 system with just the ABS computer.

You can run a 90-91 ABS computer, but you will need a CCM powered to retrieve some codes or run bi-modal operation. Even without the CCM you can retrieve basic codes.

FYI there is one 'other' manual on our Bosch system that might be helpful, it covers it across all B E/K Y body applications, it is copyright 1993 where the one you found the PDF for is copyright 1991. I don't know enough about the system to comment further, just wanted to highlight that this also exists.
