Can anyone help me out? While changing the u-joints ( 86-4-spd) one of the axle shafts has something inside that rattles. Any Ideas would be very help full.
Thanks

sctbird, as this is your first post, I am not happy about providing a guess that might result in a repair bill. There are numerous components involved, and your "rattle" could be caused by one, or many, components. It might be best to have the axle inspected now, before it leaves you stranded.
Do you have the half-shaft off the car right now? If so you might try taking it down to a shop and ask if they ever heard anything like that. They'll probably be cool and not charge ya anything to tell you what it is. If it's back on the car, then that might be a different story.
If you do this, post their solution here before you spend a bunch of money, that way the forum can lend some insight as to whether it's BS or not.

Re: Rattle (VetBoy89)
 There was a thread on this topic within the last four or five months I believe.
Try the search and try tech tips...I think the key word may be drive shafts or half shafts.
Sorry I can't remember more

PS: May I also suggest that you do two things, 1) page or e mail petel. He has a great memory for this stuff. Also, repost and change your topic header to be a little more specific. The one word, rattle, could be anything and people will go right past your post. You might want to say something like " Hi, I am new, I have a strange rattlle in my drive shaft or half shafts"
Thank you guys, I went to my local GM dealer( Taylor Motors, Redding, Calif.)With their expert help ,I found out what the "rattle" is. When these shafts are built a thick paper tube is placed inside the shaft. But I haven't found out why this is done.
Thanks again.
