For the last 3 years my Vette has been sitting hardly used becuase it wouldnt start when it got hot. Thanx to the Corvetteforum members it is being fixed tomorrow. It turns out it was the neutral safety switch. So, now I have a Vette that needs some work and mods now that it works properly. Can anyone suggest some simple beginner level mods I can work on and gain some experience? Thanx again Corvetteforum for the help with the neutral safety switch!!!!!! :D
The simplest & cheapest performance mods are K&N filter and cut lid, 160 deg stat & fan sw, cut-back spark plug electrodes.
Then do some exhaust mods for sound and HP improvement.
If you have an A4 add a 2,000rpm TC and a TransGo shift kit for a real kick. If you plan on adding some real HP have the tranny rebuild with performance parts first.
I am interested in power more than anything, then the looks. Handling isnt that important since it already handles like a dream anyway. I already have a K&N filter but no cut lid, and I have a new stat but I cant figure out how to put it in yet. As far as the cut-back spark plug electrodes, if you can point me in the direction of how to do it, I'll give it a try. I am looking into exhaust too but as far as the other stuff. "If you have an A4 add a 2,000rpm TC and a TransGo shift kit for a real kick. If you plan on adding some real HP have the tranny rebuild with performance parts first." I have no idea what that is.
Thanx for the suggestions and keep'em comin' if you got'em!
There is a sketch of cut-back electrodes on my site.
An A4 is a 700R/4 automatic transmission, a TC is a torque converter (your stock stall is rated around 1,500rpm), a shift kit results in crisp shifts.
The higher stall TC lets you launch at a higher RPM so you get a harder launch.
The shift kit firms up the shifts enough to get a nice chirp on the 1-2 shift.
The combo makes for a car that is a lot of fun to drive agressively, especially when you combine it with a nice hi-flow cat-back exhaust system for a power gain and enhanced sound at WOT.
Take a good look at 65Z01s data in making your decisions.
The L98 intake system was built for a 305, thus the low HP because the runners are too long to feed the motor at higher rpms. Of course, they are also the cause of our immense torque because of their ability to produce the right air intake velocity at low rpms. This intake must be modified or replaced for you to make extreme HP on the 350 (like 350-400hp+). Holley Stealthram, Accel Superram, and TPiS Miniram are all choices as is a modified TPI (ported plenum, bigger runners and new intake manifold).
Try running searches on these 3 intakes, its all been covered on here before.
The next big restriction is the exhaust, the stock exhaust manifolds should be replaced with longtube headers and you should add whichever catback you like based on sound.
edit-i noticed youre in CA, so you cant get longtubes and pass emissions, youll have to try Shorty headers, and the Superram is the only one of those 3 intakes with a CARB number
