I have a 1994 C4 83,000 miles, automatic tranny that is doing something I haven't experienced before. When shifting down in the gears when approaching a stop sign or just slowing down, the car sounds like it has ran over a rumble strip like on the side of the road for a brief instance (2-4 seconds). I like to let the engine "brake" for me and also just like the sound of the pipes. The tranny shifts fine going up the gears and I do not get the dreaded torque converter shudder between 2-3. Changed the filter and replaced the fluid a few months back. No metal or anything unusual. Fluid doesn't smell burnt on stick. No drips or leaks anywhere. Tranny pulls well under full power, no internal slipping or revving of the rpms.
It just seems to do this when I put a load on the tranny to pull down the speed. I can try touch the brakes to see if the lockout is a problem but before I can do that, the shudder is gone (2-4 seconds duration max). Should i be touching the brakes as I pull the gear to test if the shudder happens?
Has anyone experienced that before or have any idea what might cause that? Could it possible be something other than the transmission? Went through the motor in the fall to add some power but everything looked good from the heads up. Decked the heads, added better springs, and some roller rockers. Been running great motor wise.
