The distributor portion of the unit and the single ignition coil can be eliminated with an aftermarket coil-per-plug system from LTCC. The PCM will still rely on the optical sensor portion feeding pulses to the PCM for calculation of camshaft position, velocity and acceleration, which the PCM then uses to trigger the ignition coils. So, it's possible to eliminate half of the Opti's functionality. You'll need to retain a functioning optical section.
There are 2 aftermarket and 1 oem marine systems, Torquehead and 24x. Ilmor Marine used one on a LT1 used in Master Craft speed boats. The ilmor parts.are hard to find.
MOTEC. Remortgage home and get their system to run your engine..
LTCC is fine, and cost effective.
DELTEQ was another one that worked fine too, till someone passed, I beleive and the other just failed to maintain the system, updates and customer service.
Just make sure you have a good optical sensor. Usually, it has moisture causing poor running of engine. The Opti is fine for 99% of us. OEM sensors are very hard to find.
