Default distributor gear

while the machine shop's working on the engine, Id like to know if, since I'm installing a new camshaft, if I'm needing to swap out the distributor gear, with some other form of metal? or is stock gear alright..

-It's nice to get a reply or two.. all of ya have been awesome folks..

Need more information! What engine, roller or flat tappet, condition of current distributor gear, etc.If going from flat to roller....Yes....roller to roller....possibly, leaning towards Yes....flat to flat...possibly, leaning towards No. It all depends on application and wear. If you end up needing/getting a new gear for roller, I would personally stay away from brass and composite. Regardless of needing a hardened gear or not, be mindful when changing the gear, noting the rotor position and dimple on the gear...on one side, the roll-pin lines up with a gear tooth...on the opposite side, the roll-pin is between two gear teeth! Let us know some details👍

If it's a roller cam you want to run a melonized gear.

I'm which case just order a factory gear from Rock Auto for a 88-91 Corvette.
