My original fuel pump died and put in a Carter over the counter replacement. When you first turn the key it goes to about 10 psi and another cycle will go to where it needs to be. When you turn the ignition off the pressure drops quickly. The injectors and regulator are good.
Is there a fuel pump out there that builds pressure and retains like an original one that’s a drop in replacement?
I am certainly not an expert !! I have an 87 with an L98 and just went through the "which pump actually works" problem. I ended up going with a walbro but you have to be careful there are a lot of walbro fakes. I bought mine at Summit racing because it was a listed dealer. Fakes will have a small pin hole in the bottom off to the side. I have a 1 year old GM genuine that doesn't make the psi I believe it should. It was either Walbro or Racetronix. Again, watch out for fakes, I would buy it at Walbro or Summit. Summits shipping was pretty fast as well. Walbro on left delphi on right.
Who tested them and how did they test them? Whoever is qualified to correctly test the injectors and regulator is also qualified to test the pump check valve. Dan
