Default Uneven brake pads contact

Team,

Please take a look at the pics below. Driver side rear pads are not making full contact as the passenger rear.

What's causing this?

These are hawk 5.0 pads. Any chance I got the driver side pads put on backwards (flipped)¿

Can’t really tell from the pic but is the caliper properly set into the bracket?

if you look at the contract area vs the rust area, you can see the driver side is not as wide as the passenger.
I will check my work as this was a recent install. However, wouldn't the caliper move around if it wasn't seated right?

I would think if the caliper wasn’t seated properly it would move around, but I’ve seen things that came into our shop back in the day that made me go, huh, never seen that before.

Is the caliper sticking and can the pads move?

I don't believe so. I just rebuilt them all and grease them up properly. I will look into this though.

Measure the rotors for taper. Also look at the wear pattern on the pads to see if they're making full contact. The rotors may be worn unevenly. If so, either it's new rotor time or wait for the pad to wear in to match.

How many miles are on the brake job? Does it pull when braking?

Nice of you to give us all that information right out of the box so we didn't have to guess about possibilities.

This is why internet diagnosis sucks. We can't just magically know everything that's going on and we have to rely on selective description.

Now that we've crossed that hurdle. "Rebuilt calipers" rebuilt by who? You or the parts house?

If it's not pulling, get back to us in 1,000 miles of driving.

IHBD,

What happened to your post?

I took a few pictures of the pad/rotor relationship on both side. I suspect IHBD may be correct. Please see pictures below.

As IHBD stated on his now deleted post..this may be an issue with how the pads on the driver side are sitting on the caliper. On both, the inner and outer side of the driver side rotor, you can clearly see the contact patch is smaller than that of the passenger side. There is no clear line that identifies full pad contact against the rotor. You can also see that on the outer side of the rotor, the pad is located correctly, but not making full contact as some of the rust on the rotor is rotating under the pad.
It also appears the driver side caliper is working correctly, as I don't see indications of a sticking caliper thus causing more contact on the inside vs the outside or vice versa.

Contrast that with the passenger side, and there are clear lines indicating where the full pad contact ends. The pads here even make better contact towards the outer edge of the rotor.

As IHBD suggested, I think continued used should correct this situation.
