Ok, I haven't got into working on cars much yet, but I just have a very simple question. When I read through the forum I see people talking about changing their engine to a 383. Is that done but modifing a 350 or is that a whole new engine.

Re: Stupid Question (C490Vette)
It'd be stupider to go on through life without knowing.
"Taller" crankshaft increases stroke from 3.48" to 3.75". That's the essential part of it. Stock block, but basically everything on the bottom end needs to be replaced.
Hell, maybe someone who actually runs one will gladly pipe in.
You should also try and make your post titles less vague for more responses. :blueangel:
THe only stupid question is the question not asked. 383's are 350 blocks with longer strokes to give you more displacement. In other words the pistons travel up and down further(about 1/4" or so).
