Default Fuel Pressure staying high

I'm wondering how long after allowing the fuel pump to run for the prescribed 2 seconds should the pressure stay high before bleeding off. And why does it bleed off?

In a perfect world it should hold that pressure indefinitely. Why it bleeds off is anyone's guess, bad check valve in the fuel pump, leaky pulsator, leaky regulator, leaky injectors, leaky connections, leaky hoses, leaky orings, etc.

If it stays high for a long time you have a good tight fuel system and that is good. Dan

What I find interesting is that sometimes I'll still have maybe 20 PSI in the morning then after using the car the next day it'll have leaded down to zip. Lots of variables but I'm guessing is that if after shutting the engine off and a minute later I still have more than 20 PSI I probably have what one might call a "tight" system.
