On my 96 CE 4spd with Dana 36, 3.07 gears, I get an on gas/off gas clunk from rear diff and the body seems to yaw to the left slightly under hard roll-on accelaration. Check the bearings (mine were shot and exhibited this same symptom), the universal joints, the rear-toe tie-rod ends...anything that can (and will) wear.
If youre getting a consistent clank, shimmy, or similar noise during driving then its the bearings.
If youre just getting it when you hit the accelerator, it sounds like the U-joints are bad. Which is a little abnormal, your U-joints shouldnt have worn out so soon, unless you do alot of racing. Mine lasted 130K.
