Rory, There are experts here that are able to give you the correct answer. There are numerous places a diff can leak. Maybe a picture or a much better definition of where the leak is would help. With the info you gave nobody could give you an answer. Dan
Having gone through this, I can make 3 observations:
1) Make sure the leak is not running back from the pinion seal
2) The cover bolts are threaded into the aluminum case and can strip, requiring a thread repair
3) Do not use a gasket; use the correct Permatex sealant that is compatible with the limited slip additive in the oil and make sure you also smear a little on the bearing blocks.
The leak is between the differential housing and the suspension mount (batwing).
I have used the correct Permatex sealant with great care; dismantled all the parts, did it outside the car and applied the correct troque, but for my surprise is leaking again. The good result only lasted one or two days..
