Hello! New to the C4 world. My dad passed a year ago and I inherited his 1987 C4. He had done a ton of work to it before he passed.
I replaced the battery on 5/27/24 as I wasn’t sure when he replaced the battery (assuming 3-4 years ago ) and I had to have it jumped several times before this past winter. I drove the car on 5/27. No issues. I had the car on several times on 5/28 as I was in contact with Batee about the instrument cluster. Current film is faded and needs replaced. Otherwise it’s in working order.
Went to start it this morning, it made a quick cranking noise and everything went dead. No light, no dash, no door ding, no security light, absolutely nothing.
I’ve done several searches, VATS, fusible link? These are my questions. Any thoughts on what it might or could be. I’m fairly handy, have every book known to man including GM factory books. However, I’m used to having my dad help in diagnosing and he’s not here now. Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks! Things that were done to the car for sure.
These things were written as done, however the instrument cluster was not done. I just need new polarized film. Confirmed with batee.
I've found with my '89 that when the battery is discharged a little, that same thing happens when I try to start it. Everything goes dead until I disconnect and then reconnect the battery.
As a first step, I recommend disconnecting yours and putting it on a slow charge for an hour or two and see if it will start. If so, that likely means you have a drain somewhere. It sounds from your description of previous behavior that this is likely. Not a fun problem to sort out but you gotta do what you gotta do!

yeah I was wondering if something was draining it but not sure. I’ll check the connection again to make sure it’s tight. Cables and battery are brand new. Two days old. Thx!!!
So I went back, removed the bolts to check the connections and realized one of the bolts was shorter than the other. A new bolt the same length fixed my issue. She’s up and running. Thank you!!! To those that had input.
